During Semana Santa there are supposed to be over 30 different processions in Granada, which consist of big float type images of the 7 stages of the cross and various images of the virgin Mary. However, almost all of them were rained out this year-the processions are not able to leave the churches with chances of rain because many of them are made of gold and silver, and the rain would ruin the floats. These floats are carried by about 30 men/women for hours through the streets of Granada! There were probably under 10 that actually had luck this year and weren't rained out. I got to see 5 or 6 of them! I also attended the mass at our big cathedral with my little Easter family:) Which ended in a procession!

My Easter family-we decided to take the typical Easter family pic-Crystal, Katie, Karina, Brandon, and me!

Christ has risen! This is one of the happy images of Jesus on Easter day! The images are meant to be life like, and the human figures are usually carved wood.

This is not the KKK...it has been predicted that they mirrored their image after these religious figures though...weird. This was the night of Easter, I liked the little boy.

Again, the Easter night procession, here the women wore white veils.

I can't remember what these guys are called, but I loved the colors of this one, once again on Easter day.

This is the main door of the Alhambra...they fit these huge images through little passages.

This was a Saturday procession, Jesus had been taken down from the cross.

This is the bishop of Granada...he was so nice, asked me where I was from and then said "welcome" and "Happy Easter"

This is the procession that came into the cathedral at the end of the 12 mass...children carried this one and all the others were ringing their bells.

This is the huge beautiful cathedral in Granada. I got to hear the organ on Sunday!

An image of the virgin Mary. Usually the people carrying them are under the cloth and unseen, but this was a smaller float.

This is at the Alhambra again...there were tons of people, we were there almost 3 hours to see the procession, and we started down at the bottom of this road where the crowd was cheering and chanting to be let up to this location. It was a very interesting atmosphere.

The same procession up at the Alhambra.

These are ladies in mourning, dressed all in black.

This procession came down a new walkway in Granada.

One of the many images of Jesus on the cross-the float is gold and covered in fresh flowers. This procession had two marching bands.

The image of Mary that always comes after the Christ images.

We attended this adoration of the cross service in a random cathedral in Granada that I had never been inside, it was beautiful and covered in gold.

Another smaller image.

This is one of the images of Mary that did not get to leave the church due to the weather, but many people visited the churches to see them.

The first procession I saw was stopped in a plaza, and there was a man talking and the crowd would pray along aloud...it was neat.

The first image I saw.

People would watch from wherever they could, the processions are always packed and you can barely move.
